You’ve probably heard in the news right now that there’s some kind of controversy bubbling up about ABC’s upcoming miniseries “The Path to 9/11.” The “docudrama” is framed as a recounting of the various events in the decade prior to… Think “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”-remake bad. Hell, think “When a Stranger Calls”-remake bad. A punishingly bad script. Mercilessly blunt, clunky dialogue. The much-publicized “trimdown” from it’s original length supposedly has helped the film in the eyes of those who saw it in it’s “long” form, but for me it leaves the film a series of overly short would-be vignettes. I love how determinedly the resident-asshole character begs for his own demise. I love that the “what next?” moment involves the arrival of a giant-sized Python.

Or could’ve scooped up “Everyone’s Hero” for a run. He could’ve shown classics. (All of those, btw, would have cost him less to exhibit than Jackass.) What Howard’s critics are damning him for, fairly or not, is nothing short of being unable (pardon the pun) to turn water into wine. Sigh. The Golden Globes are just about the most useless of all Award shows. The organization that gives them out, the Hollywood Foreign Press, are a loosely organized group that seemingly exists only to put on this show.

The cast (smaller than last time, as well) is in no way afforded the kind of lengthy buildup they were in Allen’s ouvre: Our Heroes are sketched out as broad, simple cliche’s of the genre, and for the most part they behave accordingly. For now, fans will still have to look outward: Germany, France (lately), Italy and especially Japan have been picking up our slack and then some for nearly a decade now, and now “Wolf Creek” marks Australia’s latest foray onto the field.
